Species range
Estimate from download of data from Utah Rare Plant Database on December 13th 2023.
Geocat 17 observations: Extent of Occurrence: 806.440 km2.
Historic observations over 40 years old were not used. The occurrences from St. George should be revisited and are nearly historical. At least one observation may be under a neighborhood unless it was actually collected from BLM lands about 650 meters to the southwest of where point is projected.
Saline seeps at ca 820 to 1470 m in Millard and Washington counties, Utah as well as Oregon, California, and Nevada (Welsh et al 2015).
Threats or limiting factors
Threats to this species are not well documented. Threats compiled using observations and notes from Utah Rare Plant Database and Utah Geospatial Resource Center GIS Data downloaded in 2023. Severity of impacts are not well known so ranges are provided where appropriate.
Restricted to saline wetlands at few sites in western Utah, so any activity that disturbs these wetlands may impact this species. All the known occurrences in the Great Basin are within active grazing allotments where plants may be trampled. Alterations to the water table or amount of water in the wetlands may also affect this species. This would include water use by nearby agricultural lands as well as groundwater pumping from the aquifer by metropolitan areas. In St. George the loss of habitat due to the expansion of urban areas may also be a threat to some occurrences. Climate change and reoccurring drought may also be impacting this species.
