Species range
Estimate from download of data from Utah Rare Plant Database on April, 1st 2025.
Geocat 24 observations: Extent of Occurrence: 56,094.642 km2.
Historic observations over 40 years old were not used.
Reservoirs, stock ponds, lakes, and sluggish streams at 2150 to 3205 m in Beaver, Cache, Daggett, Salt Lake, Sevier, Summit, Uintah, and Utah counties, Utah; Alaska east to Newfoundland, south to California, New Mexico, and New York (Welsh et al. 2015).
Threats or limiting factors
The main threats are from habitat degradation due to grazing, drought, fire and riparian habitat modification.
Threats compiled using observations and notes from Utah Rare Plant Database and Utah Geospatial Resource Center GIS Data downloaded in 2024. Severity of impacts are not well known so ranges are provided where appropriate.
Almost all occurrences are within grazing allotments. Several occurrences are within mapped mountain goat habitat. Fire has impacted a few occurrences which may influence riparian and water quality. Hiking and foot travel note as a threat at one occurrence.
UNPS Alexander 2014: A taxon not included in previous versions of the UNPS Rare Plant list, but its apparent rarity in Utah warrants further research. Only 12 specimen at BRY has been collected. This taxon's primary range is in the Northeastern U.S.and Canada. Habitat Specificity scored as "1" due to its status as a riparian species according to A Utah Flora ("Reservoirs, stock ponds, lakes, and sluggish streams"). riparian habitat modification and disturbance from the grazing-related impacts of cattle are a threat to this species. This is the primary reason for the score of the threats to this species to a "1". Trends are scored as "unknown" due to uncertainty of the magnitude of the impacts of disturbance on extant populations and the lack of population-level surveys
