Species range
Estimate from data exported from Utah Rare Plant Database August 2020 in Geocat: using *22 user points: Extent of Occurence: 1,650.334 km2.
Utah Native Plant Society Alexander 2015: This taxon's primary range is in Idaho and Wyoming.
Welsh et al. 2015: Mountain brush and aspen communities at 1830 to 2960 m in Cache, Davis, Rich, and Weber cos.; Ida., Wyo.; 9 (0). In Utah, this species is confined to the mountains of the northern Wasatch.
There are approximately 30 collections from Utah at the Intermountain Herbarium, Utah State University. In Wyoming, it is known from one historical occurrence which was relocated in 2007 (Mancuso and Heidel 2008). Holmgren et al. (2005) also report L. multiceps from the Salt River Range in Wyoming, but fieldwork at the original collection locale documented L. prostrata instead (Heidel 2005; Mancuso and Heidel 2008).
*Collection in summit county (SEINET: 13080369, Collector: C.H.Refsdal 5/29/1994) was not used in range extent.
Threats or limiting factors
Threats to this species are not well documented. Threats compiled using observations and notes from Utah Rare Plant Database and Utah Geospatial Resource Center GIS Data downloaded in 2023. Severity of impacts are not well known so ranges are provided where appropriate.
Threats to this taxon may be primarily from grazing-related impacts, but are relatively unknown. Drought may also be a threat. The Utah Division of Water Resources reports that Utah is now in "extreme" or "exceptional" drought which is likely impacting this species in similar ways as it is other perennial forbs in Utah.
