Branchinecta gigas is found in scattered localities in the Great Basin Desert, the Colorado Desert, the Columbia River Plateau, and desert regions of southern Canada, Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota. No where is it common.
Habitat
This species occurrs in highly turbid, alkaline lakes and very large and deep pools with a pH above 8.5. These habitats are typically ephemeral, but may not dry up every year. Branchinecta gigas is a predator on other crustaceans, including other fairy shrimp.
