Rock crevices and talus (usually in quartzite but also in limestone), with subalpine fir, Douglas fir, maple, and chokecherry, at 1705 to 2745 m in Box Elder, Cache, and Tooele counties, Utah; Washington to Idaho, s. to California and Nevada; (Welsh et al. 2015).
Threats or limiting factors
There are 5 reported occurrences of Ageratina occidentalis in Utah within the last 40 years. The main threats to these occurrences are from impacts from grazing, utility and road construction and maintenance, drought, and climate change. 4 of the occurrences are within the boundaries of cattle grazing allotments, and 3 are within reported boundaries of mountain goat habitat. There is 1 occurrence near a potential energy transmission lines. All occurrences are near Utah Roads, although only 1 is a near a major road. Drought and climate change is also a threat and likely impacting this species through out it's range (Wrobleski, 2023).
