Tertiary Duchesne River and Wasatch, and less commonly Cretaceous Mowry Shale and Dakota, and other formations at 1600 to 1940 m in the juniper-pinyon community of w. Uintah Co.; a Uinta Basin endemic (Welsh et al. 2015).

Specimens collected at deadman's bench by K Thorne 1982 were misidentified specimens of A. lonchocarpus.

Some populations on private and tribal where threats are relatively unknown. Known livestock grazing and OHV use on BLM lands - which harbors over half of mapped occurrences
possible threats from climate change such as drought and severe weather events.
