Species range
Estimate from download of data from Utah Rare Plant Database on July 18, 2024.
Geocat 5 observations: Extent of Occurrence: 101.834 km2.
Historic observations over 40 years old were not used.
Sagebrush, grass, and juniper communities at 1830 to 2135 m in Rich Co.; adjacent Wyo. and Ida. (Welsh et al. 2015).
Threats or limiting factors
The main threats are from habitat degradation due to grazing and drought.
Threats compiled using observations and notes from Utah Rare Plant Database and Utah Geospatial Resource Center GIS Data downloaded in 2024. Severity of impacts are not well known so ranges are provided where appropriate. Almost all occurrences are within grazing allotments. Drought and climate change is also a threat and likely impacting this species through out it's range (Wrobleski, 2023). Occurrences near roads and in utility line corridors may be impacted by maintenance.
Utah Native Plant Society comments (accessed 2025): Only 6 specimens at BRY have been collected. It has been found in Rich County in Utah. This taxon's primary range is in Idaho and Wyoming. Habitat Specificity is re-scored from a "1" to a "0" since the habitat does not seem unusual according to A Utah Flora (sagebrush, grass, and juniper communities) and FNA (whitish sand and small rocks on steep slopes, dry hillsides, windswept knolls, shaley slopes, sometimes found on igneous substrates). It was considered by Fertig in the original scoring to be an edaphic endemic based on habitat it is found in Wyoming. A broader interpretation based on FNA has been used herein. Threats may be primarily from grazing-related impacts, but it is scored as "unknown" due to uncertainty. Trends are scored as "unknown" due to uncertainty of the magnitude of the impacts of disturbance on extant populations and the lack of population-level surveys. The changes do not re-rank this taxon.
