Pinyon-juniper, ponderosa pine, bristlecone pine, spruce-fir, and alpine tundra communities at 2135 to 3420 m in limestone or on igneous scree slopes in central Utah as well as central and southeastern Nevada (Welsh et al. 2015).
Threats or limiting factors
All occurrences on Forest Service land are within active grazing allotments, however due to the tendency for this plant to grow on scree slopes that are inaccessible by livestock it is likely that grazing related impacts are minimal (UNHP 2021). Some occurrences along highway 12 are in or near transmission line corridor and may be impacted by utility maintenance. Occurrences near road cuts may also be impacted by maintenance, but the severity of this threat is likely minimal. Several occurrences are near recreation trails and are subject to potential disturbances (UNHP 2021).
