Threats or limiting factors
The main threats are from habitat degradation due to grazing, drought, and road maintenance.
Threats compiled using observations and notes from Utah Rare Plant Database and Utah Geospatial Resource Center GIS Data downloaded in 2024. Severity of impacts are not well known so ranges are provided where appropriate. There are 46 known occurrences of Astragalus jejunus var. jejunus in Utah reported in the last 40 years. There are 44 of these occurrences that are within the boundaries of livestock grazing allotments. There is 1 known occurrence, recorded in July 2004, that is in the boundaries of a fire in Rich county that was first reported in August of 2004. There are 2 occurrences within areas designated for potential wind energy development, and 1 near a proposed energy transmission line. 44 of the occurrences are near Utah roads, 3 of which are also near Utah multiuse trails, and 8 of which are major Utah roads. Drought and climate change is also a threat and likely impacting this species through out it's range (Wrobleski, 2023).
