Industries
Industry at the Great Salt Lake has existed since before European settlement in Utah, with salt harvest being the oldest economic use of the lake still in practice.
The economic benefits of the lake may be overlooked by some today; however, a large mineral extraction industry (including salt and other metals and minerals), brine shrimp cyst harvesting, and various recreational opportunities bring substantial revenue to the state.
Part of GSLEP's purpose is to ensure that these resources are also managed well and that they will continue to be available.
