Volunteer at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range

Volunteering at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with adults, youth and special interest groups to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone.
Our volunteers are essential to the success and smooth operation of the Cache Valley range. If you would like to volunteer, you must meet high standards in addition to specific requirements. Positions
Range safety officer
Currently, our greatest need is for range safety officers, which have the following responsibilities:
- Ensure a secure environment for all shooters
- Enforce all range regulations
- Maintain public safety on the firing line
- Issue necessary range commands
- Contribute to the overall cleanliness of the facility
Maintenance volunteer
Maintenance duties at the range include, but are not limited to:
- Replace target cardboard
- Clear ranges and other facilities
- Perform machinery maintenance
- Help with landscaping

How do I become a volunteer?
All potential volunteers must be properly screened:
- Apply: Fill out a volunteer application.

Interview: To maintain the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range's high standards, management will interview each volunteer applicant. Selection criteria include, but are not limited to:
- Successful completion of a criminal background check through the National Crime Identification System
- A positive outlook and favorable attitude toward the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Cache Valley range
- Commitment to serving the minimum required volunteer hours (8 hours per month)
- Flexibility in performing assigned duties as a volunteer
- Be accepted: Once your background check has cleared, and the Utah Department of Natural Resources and Cache Valley range management have approved, you will be contacted to schedule your volunteer orientation and training.
- Pass probationary period: Your probationary period is the first three months after your official start date. During this period, you must complete your initial volunteer training sessions and commit to volunteering at least eight hours per month.
Volunteer knowledge and behavior expectations
All volunteers at the Cache Valley range should adhere to the following:
- Volunteers must be friendly, tactful, polite and considerate. You will encounter individuals of all skill levels and experiences. Our goal is to encourage public visits and support for our shooting range.
- Volunteers must wear an official uniform (i.e., orange safety vest & ID badge) when performing assigned duties.
- Volunteers must respect and follow all range rules and regulations.
- Upon completion of the initial volunteer training, volunteers should have good knowledge of range safety and have a willingness to learn more about firearms/archery equipment, ammunition, marksmanship, hunting laws and be able to answer questions or direct the public to sources of information.
- Volunteer at least 24 hours every 3 months (8 hours per month is preferred).
- Do not bring children or pets to the range while on duty.
- Do not use tobacco or nicotine vaporizers while on the firing line or in view of the public.
- Follow our procedures for emergencies and any other unexpected or unusual situations.
