Future trophy bull killed on spike hunt

This 5-point elk was recently shot and left to rot near Currant Creek Reservoir.

During the opening weekend of the any weapon spike elk hunt on the Wasatch Currant Creek unit, a 5X5 bull was shot and abandoned to rot.

Wildlife officers received information from elk hunters near Currant Creek Reservoir that a branch antler bull was down in a meadow east of the reservoir. When officers found the bull, they located a bullet in the carcass.

Officers found a second bullet in the elk's front leg. This ball of lead was fired from a muzzleloading-style rifle. The young bull was targeted twice in the last few weeks.

Anyone with information related to the illegal killing of this animal, or any other wildlife crime, is encouraged to contact the UTiP Hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available and requests for confidentiality are respected.
