Garfield County — Sometime between Oct. 19 and Oct. 22, a bull elk was shot and left to waste near mile marker 50 on Highway 12, approximately 9 miles west of Escalante.

The individuals who committed this crime most likely shot the animal from the highway and then made a U-turn to leave the area. This happened on the Plateau, Boulder/Kaiparowits limited-entry bull elk hunting unit, but there were no active bull elk hunts when this bull was killed.

If you have information related to the illegal killing of this animal, or information about any other wildlife crime, please call the UTiP Hotline at 1-800-662-3337.

Utahns value wildlife, and poaching is a serious crime. A permit or monetary reward may be available to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing this animal. Requests for confidentiality will be honored.
