Hunting the extended archery season

Hunter with bow and arrow at sunrise

If you didn't get your deer or elk earlier in the season, here's another chance

If you haven't taken a deer or elk by the time the archery general-season or limited-entry hunt ends, you can continue your archery hunting in Utah's extended archery areas.

Before hunting in any of Utah's extended archery areas, you must complete the Division's Archery Ethics Course each year, and you must carry proof of course completion with you while hunting.

This hunter ethics course is in addition to Utah's hunter education requirement. We also recommend that archery hunters complete bowhunter education.

Take the course

Remember: If you obtained an extended archery only general-season buck deer (DB0008) permit in the big game drawing, you may only hunt the extended archery units listed on this page during the extended archery season dates.

Requirements for hunting in an extended archery area

Before you go into the field, keep in mind:

  • After you successfully complete the course, you should print your certificate of completion — or download it to your Utah Hunting and Fishing mobile app — and you must carry it with you while you're hunting.
  • Review the current Utah Big Game Field Regulations guidebook for complete information regarding the extended archery hunts.
  • Limited-entry buck deer and bull elk archery hunters must complete their harvest survey questionnaire within 30 days of the end of their limited-entry hunt, even if you plan on hunting during the extended archery season.
  • General-season archery buck deer and bull elk hunters have until 30 days after the end of their respective extended archery seasons to complete their harvest survey.
  • Antlerless archery permits are not eligible for the extended archery seasons.

Taking the Archery Ethics Course

The course takes about 30 minutes to complete. You must score 100% to pass the course, but if you answer a question incorrectly you will have an opportunity at the end of the test to answer the question again. You may take the course as many times as needed.
