Area closure May 22-25

Closed area of WMA for 5/8-5/10/2026

On May 22-25, the Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club/American Kennel Club Field Trial has priority over the Lee Kay Public Shooting Range and the areas used. The birding pavilion will continue to be open.

Any dogs on the property not involved in the AKC Trial must be on a leash or under the control of their owners. Any dogs, owners or other visitors who disturb the event will be reported to range staff and may lose access to the Lee Kay WMA.

Please use caution when using the roads and do not disturb the event.

Shotgun range rules

Safe firearm handling practices are required at the Lee Kay Public Shooting Range. Enjoyable experiences at the range demand it and lives depend on it. Your compliance to these rules is appreciated by our staff, volunteers and guests.



Rules list

  1. ALL shooters and guests must check in at the office. Please do so at least one hour before the range closes.
  2. Carry all uncased firearms with the action open and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  3. Only 7½, 8 or 9 size shot, maximum of 1,300 feet per second, is allowed on all fields and the pattern board.
  4. When shooting trap, load only one shell in your firearm (the only exception is doubles) and only one shot for one bird on trap.
  5. When shooting skeet and 5-stand, you may load no more than two shells in your firearm.
  6. Game shooting such as "pick a piece," Annie Oakley, "buddy," "knock-out" or other similar games are not allowed.
  7. Up to five people are allowed on a field, but only one person may shoot at a time.
  8. Hearing and eye protection is required for everyone while on the range, whether shooting or observing. "On the range" is considered north of the sidewalk.
  9. Actions must remain open until your turn to shoot.
  10. No slugs, buckshot or home defense loads.
  11. Only shoulder-fired shotguns are allowed on the range.
  12. When an orange cone is on top of the house, it is either being loaded or worked on. Please step back from the line and open your action.
  13. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed anywhere on the premises.
  14. Smoking is not allowed on the ranges.
  15. The speed limit in the parking lot and on the property is 10 mph.
  16. Pets must be on a leash at all times.
  17. Youth under 16 must be under adult supervision at all times.
  18. No steel shot on the patterning board. Stand-ups and cardboard are available for patterning steel shot.
  19. Please pick up empty hulls and boxes.
