This buck was illegally shot and left to waste on the Sand Creek CWMU during the last weekend of the general-season deer hunt.

DUCHESNE COUNTY — Sometime around Oct. 29, during the last weekend of the general rifle deer hunt, a buck deer was illegally killed on the Sand Creek Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) in Duchesne County.

DWR conservation officers investigated the scene, which was just above the town of Hanna. They determined the buck was shot with a rifle, and the size of the carcass indicated that the buck was mature. The person who killed it took only the head and left all of the meat to waste. According to individuals from the CWMU, the deer may have been a 3X3 that frequented the area.
