Want to gather shed antlers? You must take an ethics course first

Collecting antlers that fall off the heads of deer, elk and moose each winter is a popular pastime in Utah. Before you head outdoors to collect shed antlers, though, please remember that you must complete the DWR's Antler Gathering Ethics Course.

Places to see bald eagles in Utah

February is the best time of the year to see one of America's most iconic birds. Bald eagles fly to Utah in the winter to find food and escape colder conditions farther north.

Want to hunt big game in Utah this fall? The application period opens Jan. 28

The application period for Utah's big game hunts opens on Jan. 28 and runs until 11 p.m. on March 4. To be included in the drawing for the hunts, you can apply on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website or over the phone by calling the nearest DWR regional office.

Vital habitat acquired to protect desert tortoise

Almost 53 acres of private property in southwestern Utah — vital habitat for the Mojave desert tortoise — were acquired recently through the combined efforts of several agencies and organizations.

1,079 wildlife illegally killed in Utah in 2020

The total number of wild animals taken illegally in Utah in 2020 was slightly higher than the number taken in 2019, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officers report.

7 wildlife management areas will close Jan. 1

To help protect big game animals, especially deer, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources annually closes seven wildlife management areas in northern Utah.
