The DWR is committed to developing more community fisheries — places one can walk, bike or bus to, and catch a fish or two.
Community fisheries provide a fun, easy way to spend quality time with family and friends outdoors. They offer a setting for parents and kids to talk, enhance family interaction, and keep busy Utahns in touch with the natural world. Fishing can provide families with opportunities to get away from their day-to-day problems and share time together.
Kids benefit from fishing immensely, since they can participate solo or with others. It's a sport that builds self-esteem and confidence while enhancing problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The DWR's Urban Fishing Program includes an educational component for urban children (ages six to 13) who have never fished, or haven't fished as much as they'd like. Youth fishing clubs form each spring in various communities to introduce young people to the joys of responsible sport fishing. The clubs are lead by adult mentors who teach interest youth about fish, the place they live, and how to catch them. So if you interested in volunteering or enrolling your children a youth fishing club, follow the link below.

We must get children outside to interact with the environment. To ensure that children have a chance to catch fish, we will stock trout in the spring and fall. We will also provide a stable, self-sustaining warm water fishery with suitable water. We will work within communities to promote and aid fishing clubs. The number of fishing clubs and members must increase every year. We distribute this community fishing booklet each year to provide people with up-to-date information.
The future is in our grasp. There is strength in numbers. Working together, we will succeed!
