Boaters 'discovered' a watercraft inspection station in Wasatch County the hard way recently: they were pulled over and ticketed for not stopping at the station. The station is at the Daniels Canyon port of entry.

If you'd like to hunt cow elk, cow moose, doe deer or doe pronghorn in Utah this fall, the deadline to apply for a permit is coming up quick. Applications for Utah antlerless permits will be accepted through wildlife.utah.gov starting May 26. You must submit your application through the website no later than 11 p.m. on June 16 to be included in permit drawing.

Right now, many of Strawberry Reservoir's cutthroat trout are migrating up the Strawberry River to spawn, but you don't have to be an angler to get a close look. Biologists from the DWR are hosting a free cutthroat trout viewing event on May 28, 2016.

If you'd like to get into Utah's backcountry and hunt turkeys this spring, but you don't have a permit yet, no problem: there's still plenty of time to hunt. And plenty of permits are available. Utah's general statewide turkey hunt runs until May 31. Jason Robinson, upland game coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources, says reports he's received from the field indicate turkey hunting has been excellent this spring.

Depending on which unit you applied for, you might have a better chance at drawing a permit to hunt buck deer in Utah this fall. And, if you obtain written permission to hunt on private property, a new cow elk hunting experience is waiting for you this year. The Utah Wildlife Board has approved 12,010 private lands only permits.

It's not unusual to find a baby bird on the ground this time of the year. Ron Stewart, regional conservation outreach manager for the Division of Wildlife Resources, says young birds often leave their nests before they're able to fly. "They usually spread along the branch of a tree and call for their parents to bring them food," he says.
