2017 waterfowl hunt opener conditions

Utah Lake and Central Utah DWR WMAs

Water conditions: The water level at Utah lake has risen up quite a bit since last year. The small boat ramp is open at the Mill Race sportsman access point (located west of I-15 in Provo Bay). The small boat ramps at Swede Lane and LeBarron Point are still dry, however, and are closed to boat launching. We recommend using one of the main public marinas — Utah Lake State Park, Lindon Boat Harbor, American Fork Boat Harbor or Pelican Bay — to launch your duck boat.

General information: Hunting on Utah Lake will be very difficult this year. We recommend you scout your hunting locations during in daylight before your hunt in order to avoid any major issues.

The DWR and the Utah Lake Commission have continuing removing phragmites around the lake shore, which will open up more waterfowl habitat. This year, we will treat 435 acres on the South end of Goshen Bay and 511 acres at the mouth of Provo Bay. In Provo Bay, the area is largely on the north side of the opening, but we will treat a smaller portion in the Sandy Beach area to the south. You may notice dead phragmites in these areas.
