DWR volunteers removing fencing at Cinnamon Creek WMA

Volunteer for the DWR

Are you interested in helping Utah's fish and wildlife?

DWR volunteers removing fencing at Cinnamon Creek WMA

The DWR organizes a variety of volunteer service opportunities each year. Some of these projects may only take a few hours, and others are best fulfilled by long-term volunteers who commit to helping on a regular basis. Some of the many DWR volunteer opportunities include:

  • Lee Kay and Cache Valley public shooting ranges (range safety officers, general maintenance, special events)
  • Eccles Wildlife Education Center (guides, naturalists, education)
  • Field work (habitat improvements, wildlife research)
  • Partner projects (state parks, community ponds, rangeland needs)
  • Special events and seminars
  • Education and experience (internships, career shadowing)
  • Facility and equipment maintenance (upkeep of buildings, tools and equipment)
  • Donate materials or equipment to support a DWR need

DWR service projects may be developed and hosted by the DWR and agency staff members, or these projects may be organized in partnership with other state and federal agencies, conservation groups, municipalities, or other organizations that have shared goals with DWR.

Apply to volunteer today!

Note: These projects are generally available to all volunteers. However, certain projects may be set aside for specific groups or organizations, like school groups or corporate volunteer days. The DWR reserves the option to deny court-ordered service on certain projects, at its discretion.

Special note for Utah Dedicated Hunter program participants:

Beginning in 2024, a new online volunteer project system will be used to find and sign up for pre-authorized volunteer projects. This project webpage will serve as the primary resource for Dedicated Hunter participants.

  • Projects will vary among different species, service tasks and other important needs of the DWR.
  • Project availability changes constantly. Visit frequently to have the best opportunity to sign up for a project you are interested in.
  • Only register for a project that you will attend. Project materials, planning, staffing, etc. are all dependent on the project occurring. If not enough volunteers register for a project, the DWR may cancel it, or postpone it to another time.
