2015 upland game youth hunts

These hunts are open to all youth who meet the age requirements and who either graduate from Hunter Education or who participate in Utah's Trial Hunting Program. You can read more about these hunts on page 12 of the Utah Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook.

Besides those listed in the guidebook, there may be additional hunts offered in areas across the state. Once they are scheduled, those opportunities will be listed below. (See information about the upcoming youth pheasant hunts.)

Pheasant hunts

Southwestern Utah

Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources have partnered to hold a pheasant hunt for youth and recent hunter education graduates on November 14, 2015. We will release pheasants for the hunt so that hunters will have an increased chance of success.

Please see the Utah Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits. These hunts are focused on new and youth hunters, so we ask that experienced hunters avoid hunting these areas on November 14.

Redmond Game Management Area

Location: Redmond Game Management Area in Sevier County.

Date: November 14, 2015.

Time: There will be two sessions. The morning session is at 8 a.m., and the afternoon session is at 1 p.m.

Requirements: The hunt is limited to 30 participants (15 per session). To participate, you must be 17 years of age or younger on July 31, 2015 or this must be your first year hunting (at any age). If you're taking Hunter Education, you must graduate before November 14, 2015.

How to sign up: You can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, call the Cedar City office at 435-865-6100.

Pahvant Upland Game Management Area

Location: Pahvant Upland Game Management Area in Millard County.

Date: November 14, 2015.

Time: There will be two sessions. The morning session is at 8 a.m., and the afternoon session is at 1 p.m.

Requirements: To participate, you must be 17 years of age or younger on July 31, 2015 or have graduated from Hunter Education in 2015 prior to November 14, 2015. The hunt is limited to 100 participants (50 per session).

How to sign up: You can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, call the Cedar City office at 435-865-6100.

Southeastern Utah

Hatt's Ranch Youth Pheasant Hunt

We have partnered with Hatt's Ranch to provide guided youth pheasant hunting opportunities during the statewide youth pheasant hunt (October 10, 2015). Hunting dogs will be provided for 20 qualifying youth hunters. (Please see the 2015–2016 Utah Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits.)

Where: The Youth Pheasant Hunt will take place at Hatt's Ranch. Hatt's Ranch is located 3.5 miles south of Interstate 70 along SR-24 going toward Hanksville.

When: The Pheasant Hunt will start at 9 a.m. on October 10, 2015.

Who: To participate, you must be 17 years old or younger on July 31, 2015. The hunt is limited to 20 participants. Participants must be accompanied by an adult, possess an upland game hunting license and have passed hunter safety.

How to sign up: You can sign up beginning Sept. 21, 2015. To sign up, visit or call the Southeastern Region office in Price at 435-613-3700. Successful applicants will be randomly drawn and notified at least 10 days before the hunt.

Hatt's Ranch Youth Chukar Hunt

We have partnered with Hatt's Ranch to provide guided youth chukar hunting opportunities on September 26, 2015. This is the same day as the opening day of the statewide chukar hunt. Hunting dogs will be provided for 20 qualifying youth hunters. (Please see the 2015–2016 Utah Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits.)

Where: The Youth Chukar Hunt will take place at Hatt's Ranch. Hatt's Ranch is located 3.5 miles south of Interstate 70 along SR-24 going toward Hanksville.

Desert Lake WMA Youth Pheasant Hunt

We will host a Youth Pheasant Hunt at the Desert Lake WMA near Elmo, Utah during the statewide youth pheasant hunt (October 10, 2015). Hunting dogs will be provided for 20 qualifying youth hunters. (Please see the 2015–2016 Utah Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits.)

Where: The Youth Pheasant Hunt will take place at the Desert Lake WMA near Elmo, Utah. To get to the Desert Lake Waterfowl Management Area simply take SR-155 off of SR-10 north of the town of Huntington, take SR-155 to the town of Elmo, once you get to Elmo continue east on Main Street, less than 1/2 mile east of town there will be a Desert Lake WMA sign, turn south on this road and go for 1.5 miles to a kiosk on the right side of the road.

When: The Pheasant Hunt will start at 9:00 a.m. on October 10, 2015.

Who: To participate, you must be 17 years old or younger on July 31, 2015. The hunt is limited to 20 participants. Participants must be accompanied by an adult, possess an upland game hunting license and have passed hunter safety.

Northeastern Utah

Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve Pheasant Hunt

We have partnered with Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Mule Deer Foundation, Safari Club International and Pheasants Forever to provide guided youth pheasant hunting opportunities during the statewide Youth Pheasant Hunt on October 10, 2015. Hunting dogs and experienced guides will be provided.

Where: The Youth Pheasant Hunt will take place at the Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve in Myton, Utah. For directions, visit the website.

When: The Pheasant Hunt will start at 10 a.m. on October 10, 2015.

Who: To participate, you must be 17 years old or younger on July 31, 2015. The hunt is limited to 20 participants. Participants must be accompanied by an adult, possess an upland game hunting license and have passed hunter safety.
