2019 commercial hunting area application overview

Commercial hunting areas within Utah offer additional upland game hunting opportunity outside of the general upland game seasons. CHAs are areas on private land where hunters can pursue released pheasants, partridges and quail. CHAs generally charge an access and per-bird fee.

Commercial hunting area seasons can run from Sept. 1 to March 31. Open dates can vary by Commercial Hunting Area. Contact the CHA operator for more information hours, prices, species available, reservations, etc.

Commercial Hunting Areas (CHA) are private business that are regulated by, but not affiliated with or endorsed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

For operators

You must submit an applications to start a new Commercial Hunting Area (CHA), change boundaries, add species, or renew when the three-year Certificate of Registration (COR) has expired. Applications require approval from Utah Division of Wildlife (DWR) regional offices before being forwarded to the DWR Salt Lake office for final review and issuance of a COR. An application may be submitted at any time.

Annual reports and fees are required each year for a CHA's COR to remain valid. Annual reports and invoices are mailed out by the DWR on April 1 and are due to a regional office by May 1. There is a 30-day late period from May 2 to May 31 when an additional fee applies.

CORs expire on June 30, three years after being issued and must be renewed by submitting a renewal application.
