Annual Elk Festival

December 10: Celebrate Utah's wildlife at this year's Elk Festival.

It's just about time to celebrate the return of the elk to Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area with the annual Elk Festival. This year's festival will be held at Hardware Ranch WMA on Saturday Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be many fun and free family activities in addition to the regular sleigh rides and visitor center. Activities will include fish printing, wildlife Christmas ornament crafting and more.

Second Annual Willy Wapiti's Smokepole Biathlon

December 17: Test your speed and accuracy on our snowshoeing muzzleloader course during the second annual Willy Wapiti's Smokepole Biathlon! The event will happen Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Elk viewing and wagon rides begin in December


The 2016–2017 elk-viewing season at Hardware Ranch will run from Dec. 9, 2016 until Feb. 27, 2017. Gather the kids and bundle up!

Elk-viewing ride prices

We accept cash, check, credit and debit cards.
NOTE: We recommend bringing cash in case the Internet is down and our card readers aren't working.

  • Adults (9 and older) — $5
  • Children (4 through 8) — $3
  • Children 3 and younger ride for free.

Ticket sales for rides will close promptly at 4:30 p.m. You must have your ticket purchased and be in the sleigh line by 4:30 p.m. There is no food or fuel sold at the ranch.

We are closed every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We are also closed on Christmas day.


Restrooms are available in the visitor center.

Other area activities

Fishing on the Blacksmith Fork River, Curtis Creek and Rock Creek provides miles of access to excellent fishing. All waters on the management area are open to fishing year round with appropriate licenses.

Primitive camping spots are available during the year. No restroom or garbage facilities are offered. Please take care of these areas and pack out trash.

The majority of the 14,000-acre management area is open for recreational hunting during appropriate hunting seasons. Deer, elk, moose, chukar, ruffed grouse and cottontail rabbits are all hunted on the management area.
