Brine shrimp harvester update

August 28, 2012

Dear Brine Shrimp Harvester

We will host a meeting for those associated with the brine shrimp harvest on Tuesday September 25, 2012. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and adjourn not later than noon. An hour will likely be sufficient to cover the topics. The meeting will be held in the main floor conference rooms (1040 and 1050) at the Department of Natural Resources located at 1594 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Aviation representatives will be present to discuss issues and regulations regarding air traffic control and access to a portion of the West Desert Range. Clover Control has done an exemplary job over the years to offer assistance and allow access to the range. I would suggest all pilots that will be flying for the companies attend. Safety is the primary issue and all pilots need to do their part so this mutually cooperative effort can continue. Other topics to be discussed include brine shrimp population performance and harvest reporting. Law enforcement personnel for both Wildlife Resources and Parks and Recreation will attend and be available to answer questions.

Kyle Stone, one of the GSLE Program biologists, will contact the appropriate company representatives to schedule distribution of CORs, ROE permits, COR marker stickers, cards and landing receipts. He will make the contacts as soon as the materials are ready for distribution.

Data from August 20, 2012. All values per liter of lake water:

Provided there are sufficient cyst numbers, the harvest season will begin at noon on Monday, October 1, 2012.

Thank you in advance for sending company representatives and pilots to this meeting. It provides an excellent venue to distribute information and answer questions. Please travel safely.
