Updates

Scofield Canyons CWMU. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) recently completed a land exchange and acquired a parcel of private property in Carbon County. That property is currently enrolled in the Scofield Canyons Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU). One of the conditions of the land acquisition was that the DWR honor the existing hunting lease and allow the land to remain enrolled in the Scofield Canyons CWMU for the 2017 big game and antlerless hunting seasons. Hunters who obtained permits* to hunt antlered and antlerless big game animals on the CWMU will be the only ones allowed to hunt the CWMU during the 2017 seasons.

While it is unique to have DWR lands enrolled in a CWMU, it is necessary to leave these lands enrolled as part of the Scofield Canyons CWMU this fall. After the 2017 hunting seasons end, the lands acquired by DWR will be open to the public as part of a DWR wildlife management area. This is a prime piece of big game habitat that will offer a unique hunting opportunity for the public, and the DWR looks forward to managing this asset for generations to come. If you have any questions, please contact Covy Jones, Private Lands Public Wildlife Coordinator, at 801-538-4776 or This email address is being protected from spambots. * Permits for CWMUs are offered through the DWR’s annual big game permit drawing. Private permit vouchers are offered and sold through CWMU operators who represent participating landowners.
