General information

Primula maguirei is a federally listed as threatened species known only from Logan Canyon in Cache County, Utah where it can be found growing on moist, shady limestone rock walls. Maguire's Primrose has bright rose to purple flowers which bloom above abundant basal leaves.

Primula maguirei is a federally listed as threatened species known only from Logan Canyon in Cache County, Utah where it can be found growing on moist, shady limestone rock walls. Maguire's Primrose has bright rose to purple flowers which bloom above abundant basal leaves.

Phenology

Flowers in the spring between late April and May

Diagnostic characteristics

This is the only Primula species in the Logan Canyon and can be distinguished there by its typical Primula form having large, showy lavender flowers which bloom above basal leaves. 

Species range

Plants known only from Logan Canyon, Cache County, Utah. 

Threats or limiting factors

Primary threats are road construction and water line development. Collecting, rock climbing, and other recreational activities are also ongoing threats (England 1990, Tilley et al. 2011)
