General information

Phacelia indecora, commonly named Bluff Phacelia, is endemic to San Juan County, Utah. It can be found among hanging garden communities at 3,600-4,500 feet elevation. It flowers May through June. It has pale blue petals and pale yellow flower tube streaked with blue.

Phacelia indecora, commonly named Bluff Phacelia, is endemic to San Juan County, Utah. It can be found among hanging garden communities at 3,600-4,500 feet elevation. It flowers May through June. It has pale blue petals and pale yellow flower tube streaked with blue.

Flowers May-June.

Diagnostic characteristics

Phacelia indecora is similar to Phacelia incana. However, Phacelia indecora has finely glandular-puberulent stems and pale blue corollas (vs. glandular-villous stems and white to pale lavender corollas).

Type collection made in Bluff, San Juan County, Utah.

Threats or limiting factors

Threats to hanging garden sites along San Juan River higher than previously suspected, some loss of habitat (UNPS accesed 2025).
