General information
Pediomelum aromaticum var. barnebyi is known from Kane and Washington county, Utah as well as Mojave county, Arizona where it occurs only in the Dixie Divide. This species is often associated with the Pinyon-juniper and silver buffaloberry plant communities where it grows on the fine-textured substrates adjacent to Short Creek. Barneby's Aromatic Scurf-pea can have multi colored flowers having a white or purple banner and purplish wings and green or purplish keel petals. This low growing pea family plant stands out for it's low growing growth habit and it's leaves with 5-7 leaftlets with all green parts of the plant having short appressed hairs.
