General information

Rock hymenoxys, Hymenoxys lapidicola, is a compact mat-forming plant, it lights up sandstone rock crevices in ponderosa pine communities with its small yellow flowers. It is endemic to Uinta Basin and known from approximately, only eight locations. Hymenoxys lapidicola has been accepted to be synonyms with Tetraneuris torreyana.

It is endemic to Uinta Basin and known from approximately, only eight locations. Hymenoxys lapidicola has been accepted to be synonyms with Tetraneuris torreyana.

Flowers in June.

Diagnostic characteristics

Hymenoxys lapidicola is differentiated from H. torreyana by its pulvinate-caespitose form, thickened recurved involucral bracts, and disks less than 10 mm wide.  

Species range

This species is endemic to the Uinta Basin, only known from Uintah County.

Threats or limiting factors

Threats have been considered to be low, in part due to its relatively inaccessible habitat (Alexander 2016). Threats may include some recreation impacts and drought.
