General information

Herrickia kingii var. barnebyana is known only from the Canyon Mountains and Mount Nebo in the  Wasatch Range where it is found on rocky slopes and cliff crevices in Quercus-Cercocarpus and other plant communities on Precambrian quartzite substrate. Barneby's aster is a dwarf, leafy herb found in high elevations and is one of just two white to pale lavender flowered Herrickia's in the genus, the other being the sister variety kingii of this species. This plant, Herrika kingii var. barnebyana has serrate leaf edges.

Description

Flowers in August throughout September.

Diagnostic characteristics

This species is distinguished from other Herrickia species by having white to light purple ray flowers and is separated by the closely related taxa var. kingii by its serrated leaves.
