Hedysarum boreal var. gremiale or Rollin’s sweetvetch is a perennial legume endemic to the Uinta Basin in Utah. This variety is not always recognized and instead is grouped in with Hedysarum boreal subsp. boreale as the main distinguishing characteristic is the presence or absence of spines on the loments.

Diagnostic characteristics
Hedysarum boreale var. gremiale is distinguished from the sister variety boreale in having segments of loments with spines on the lateral surfaces while the later lacks spines.

Hedysarum boreale var. gremiale is endemic to Utah while the broader species Hedysarum boreale can be found across the west-central USA including AZ, CO, ID, KA, MT, NV, NM, ND, OK, UT, and WY.
