General information

Eriogonum zionis var. zionis is a variety of buckwheat endemic to the southern portion of Utah and parts of Arizona. This herb is found sandy soils in a variety of plant communities between 1300 - 2100 meters (4265 - 6900 ft) elevations. Zion buckwheat has swollen nodes and anywhere from white to red to yellow flowers.

This herb is found sandy soils in a variety of plant communities between 1300 - 2100 meters (4265 - 6900 ft) elevations. Zion buckwheat has swollen nodes and anywhere from white to red to yellow flowers.

Phenology

Flowering July throughout October.

Species range

Once divided into several varieties, var. nobilis has only been found in San Juan County while var. zionis has been found in Zane and Washington Counties. Populations also occur in Arizona. 

Threats or limiting factors

Threats to this taxon may be primarily from the grazing-related impacts of grazing and climate change. Mining may also be a threat.
