General information

Eriogonum hylophilum or gate canyon wild buckwheat is a subshrub endemic to the tavaputs plateau in Utah. This species has white cymose flowers which bloom in July and September.

Eriogonum hylophilum or gate canyon wild buckwheat is a subshrub endemic to the tavaputs plateau in Utah. This species has white cymose flowers which bloom in July and September.

Diagnostic characteristics

Eriogonum hylophilum is closely related to E. corymbosum and was previously considered a variety of this species rather than a separate entity. The main differed is the white to cream colored flowers and locality.

Species range

Eriogonum hylophilum is endemic to the Tavaputs Plateau in Utah which falls within Duchesne, Millard, and Uintah counties.

Threats or limiting factors

Threats include potential impacts from grazing, energy development, mining, drought and recreation. All occurrences are on green river shale formation in a major oil and gas producing area of the state. Some occurrences near roads may be impacted by OHV use and maintenance.
