Aquilegia holmengrii or Noel’s columbine is a recently described species (2008) that was once included in A. elegantula. This columbine is named in honor of Dr. N. H. Holmgren who helped in the taxonomic revision of this species. A. holmengrii is endemic to the Navajo Basin and is located in moist sites primarily within Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
