Poached bull elk in Piute County

Conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are seeking help from the public for information about a poached bull elk in Piute County. On October 9, 2013, officers were called to the Durkee Springs area on the Monroe Mountain limited entry elk management unit, east of Marysvale. Officers found a 5X6 bull elk that had been shot several times and left to rot.

Three bull elk poached on the Moon's Ranch CWMU

This fall, several elk have been poached on the Moon's Ranch CWMU near Hanna, Utah. One elk's head was removed and caped. Another elk had just its head removed. In both cases, the meat was left to spoil. Officers also found one elk that appeared to have been shot on the public land nearby and then died on the CWMU.

Mature elk taken from spike only unit

On the opening morning of Utah's spike elk hunt, Division of Wildlife officers received a UTiP call from hunters who saw a branch antler bull being taken from a spike only unit. By the time law enforcement was able to travel to the scene, the individuals who had illegally killed the bull were gone.

Future trophy bull killed on spike hunt

During the opening weekend of the any weapon spike elk hunt on the Wasatch Currant Creek unit, a 5X5 bull was shot and abandoned to rot. Anyone with information related to the illegal killing of this animal is encouraged to contact the UTiP Hotline at 1-800-662-3337.

Two bull elk poached near Grouse Creek

On or around August 31, 2013, two bull elk were illegally shot a few miles north of Hwy 30 near Grouse Creek, in Box Elder County. Both elk had a small amount of meat and the ivory teeth removed. There was a large portion of meat on each elk left to waste.

Moose poaching investigation near Mill Hollow Reservoir

On October 6, 2013, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Conservation Officer Brent Kasza received information regarding a poached moose through the UTiP hotline. At the scene, he saw a young bull moose lying dead about a half mile west of the Mill Hollow Road, north of Mill Hollow Reservoir.

Turkey baiting in Cache County

In April and May of 2013, during the limited-entry and general turkey season, six individuals were associated with illegal poaching of turkeys over bait. This activity occurred in the south end of Cache County in the Mount Sterling, southeast of the town of Wellsville, inside the Sardine Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit.

Officers seek information in double moose poaching

On October 7, 2013, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources received information regarding two poached moose through the UTiP hotline. Officer Kasza and a DWR investigator responded to the scene where they located a small calf moose and a small bull moose lying dead off the Murdock Basin road off highway 150 (the Mirror Lake Hwy).

Officers nab suspect accused in North Logan City buck shooting

Officers from the Division of Wildlife Resources and North Park Police Department recently concluded their investigation into the illegal killing of a well-known buck in North Logan City limits. The suspect now faces two misdemeanor charges: shooting within city limits and unlawful taking of wildlife while trespassing.

DWR officers participate in Youth Waterfowl Fair

On September 7, 2013, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officers in the Northern Region participated in the 9th annual Waterfowl Youth Fair at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management area. The Waterfowl Youth Fair was a free event sponsored by the Utah Waterfowl Association.
