Young people can learn how to hunt wild turkeys, receive free raffle tickets and leave with free door prizes at the Second Annual Southern Region Turkey Hunting Clinic. Heather Talley says the April 2 clinic is open to anyone 17 years of age and younger.

Attending the annual "Spring Strut" at Hardware Ranch could be the perfect way to prepare for Utah's spring turkey hunting season. And you might even walk away with some free gear. The free event happens on April 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It lasts only a short period of time. But, if you enjoy catching trout and other coldwater fish from the shore, you won't want to miss "ice off" this spring. The warming water is drawing the hungry trout and other coldwater fish from deeper water, where they've spent the winter, into shallow water to feed.

As the snow piles up in the winter, mountain goats along the South Slope of the Uinta Mountains move down onto ridges that are exposed to the sun. The southern sun, steep terrain and a little help from the wind clear these ridges of snow. That provides a great wintering area for the goats — and a unique viewing opportunity for people.

Don't let the cold weather fool you; Utah's spring black bear hunt will start in about two months. If you'd like to hunt bears during the spring, summer or fall seasons, the time to apply for a permit is almost here. You can apply starting Feb. 8.

If you want to hunt big game animals in Utah this fall, the clock is ticking. Applications for hunting permits are due no later than 11 p.m. on March 3. You can learn more about the application at wildlife.utah.gov/2016biggame.html.
