Salt Creek, Public Shooting Grounds & Locomotive Springs Waterfowl Management Areas
General information

Motorized vehicle access is restricted to gravel roads and parking areas. Please do not block any access. ATV and airboats are prohibited.
Motorized and non-motorized conventional watercraft are allowed. We recommend shallow-draft motors. Water is typically less that 14 inches deep. Deep-water exists in borrow areas near most of the dikes. Use caution.
Blinds are restricted to the use of naturally existing non-woody vegetation. Portable blinds of non-native materials can be used, but must be removed daily. Those building or using non-native blind materials are responsible for the structure's removal. See Waterfowl Guidebook for blind regulations.

Salt Creek WMA
Access North Salt Creek WMA entrance via 9600 N and 8400 W.
Access South Salt Creek WMA entrance via 6800 W (Iowa String) and traveling west on 6800 N to Comptons Knoll or the county road parking area or the main parking area by the out houses.
Access can also be obtained from the south via Hwy 83 (Corinne exit off I 15) to 11300 W (Little Mountain county road, west of Little Mountain) and traveling north to any of the three parking and entrance locations.
Access to the area is restricted. The area is open for public use one week before the waterfowl season and throughout the waterfowl season. Call (801) 854-3610 to request authorization to enter the area during the rest of the year. Restricting access is enables us to maximize wildlife reproduction and limit detrimental impacts during critical reproductive, brood rearing and migration events.
The gates will be open the Saturday prior to the opening day of the waterfowl season. Please respect the area and enjoy it; we have worked hard to present it in the best possible condition.
Firearms are prohibited except during waterfowl hunting season. During the season, only shotguns and nontoxic shot are allowed. The area is closed to fishing, dove and deer hunting. Upland game hunting is allowed and encouraged. See proclamation for legal shooting hours.
Camping is allowed after the outer gates have been opened. Please use common sense and caution with campfires; we will hold you accountable.
The area is a pack-it-in-pack-it-out designated area. Please take your garbage and any other trash that you find out when you leave. This will improve the quality of the experience for all that visit the area.
A designated watchable wildlife area exists on Salt Creek WMA, Comptons Knoll area. This area is for public use and enjoyment year round. Please enjoy the area and the wildlife, and please respect all other regulations and requests. Thank you.
Public Shooting Grounds WMA
Public Shooting Grounds WMA can be accessed from Hwy 83, approximately 10.5 miles west of the Corrine exit off I 15.
Access to the area is restricted. The area is open for public use one week before the waterfowl season and throughout the waterfowl season. Special physically challenged use area: Five permanent blinds have been constructed for persons whom meet the requirements. These blinds are wheel chair accessible from the loading and unloading areas adjacent to the blinds. Parking is in the designated area by the old cabin. The area is identified by the two large wood signs which read: "Physically Challenged Use Area Next 1,600 Feet, Waters Edge To Rest Area. Hunting Allowed Only From 5 Permanent Blinds. Load And Unload Only Next 1,600 Feet. One Non-Physically Challenged Per Party Allowed For Retrieval. Department Of Motor Vehicle Certification Requirements Apply To Designated Area."
(Section A. of the certification form is the documentation that is required, this is the part signed by the physician. All other permit, licenses and stamp requirements apply.)
The non-physically challenged person may also hunt from the same blind as the person that he or she is helping. These blinds are on a first-come basis.
Locomotive Springs WMA
Access Locomotive Springs WMA by exiting I-84 at the Snowville and traveling south on the Locomotive, Snowville county gravel road for about 20 miles.
You can also access Locomotive Springs from I-15 by taking the Corinne exit and traveling west on Hwy 83 towards Thiokol, then west at Lampo junction (Promontory), past the Golden Spike National Monument, Howell Valley junction (end of paved road) and staying on the county gravel road traveling west for about 25 miles. Signs are present to help direct you on the county road.

Upland game hunting is allowed and encouraged. A limited opportunity exists on the area for upland game hunting. Hungarian partridge and cottontail rabbits are known to occupy the area. We are directing management efforts at improving upland game hunting opportunities. Remember all firearms restrictions and season dates. See proclamation for legal shooting hours.
Baker and Bar-M springs are stocked with rainbow trout beginning around the October 1 and ending around the middle of April. Approximately 9,000 fish are stocked during this time and average 2 to 2.8 fish per pound. Fishing is open year-round; please check the proclamation for the legal limits (4 fish) and other regulations that apply.
Camping outside the accessed managed area is allowed year round. Camping in the access-managed area is allowed after the outer gates have been opened. Please use common sense and caution with campfires; we will hold you accountable.
Locomotive Springs is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out area. Please take out your garbage and any other trash that you find.
