UTAH HUNTING

Waterfowl hunting

2013 waterfowl hunt opener conditions

Browns Park Waterfowl Management Area

Water levels on the Parsons and Bridgeport units will be at full pool. The Butch Cassidy unit, which straddles the Utah-Colorado border, will not be at full pool due to drought conditions. Only a small amount of marshea will have open water on the Utah side. Please be aware of the state line on this unit to avoid violations. Road access is good on all units. Green River flows will be a constant 800 cfs for the month of October.

Current bird numbers are lower than usual since only a few early migrants have arrived. Recent years have seen fewer birds for the opener, and it appears this year will be the same. Youth hunters should expect to see some birds and they typically decoy well. For the regular season opener, hunters will see mostly mallards, green winged teal, widgeon and gadwall. A few Canada geese are currently using the area. Overall, hunters should expect to see fewer birds if weather conditions remain stable north of Utah.
