2011 waterfowl hunt opener conditions

Public Shooting Grounds Waterfowl Management Area

Water conditions are near normal hunt levels for the Youth Hunt due to a hot and dry July and August. Levels should be normal by the general opener.

Bird numbers are fair and may decrease following the season opener until new birds arrive. As with most things this year things are a bit slow and the early fall migrants have just started arriving this past week, Aug. 29, 2011.

Mallard, pintail, green-winged teal, gadwall and cinnamon teal are the primary birds present and wigeon are starting to show up. There are numerous Canada geese for the opener

Gates will be open on September 15, 2011.

Camping is allowed, no facilities available and fires are the responsibility of the camper, and if you lose it you pay for it.

NOTE: The area lacked enough water to maintain all impoundments and marshes with adequate water this year. In some areas the vegetation is dormant already.

Green and/or brown are the colors depending on the area you plan to hunt. East brown and west green.
