2009 waterfowl hunt opener conditions
Browns Park Waterfowl Management Area
Water levels on the Parsons Unit will be at normal levels. The Bridgeport ponds will have very little water due to pump failure. The Butch Cassidy Unit on the Colorado-Utah border has low water levels, please be aware of hunting on the Utah side of the border on this unit. Road access to all units will be good. River flows are a single power generation peak that fluctuates between 1,500 and 2,400 cfs starting in the morning and dropping at night.
Bird numbers are well below normal with only a few early migrants having shown up. Youth hunters can expect a slow hunt. Hunters on the general opener should expect to see mostly mallards, green-winged teal and gadwall with a few widgeon and ring-necked ducks. No geese have been seen in the area recently. Hunters should expect that success rates will be low unless weather moves birds into the area before the opener.
