Wildlife statutes and rules

Regulations that determine how people hunt, trap or fish for wildlife in Utah are contained in both state statutes (code) and division administrative rules. State statutes are passed by the state legislature; the administrative rules are passed by the Wildlife Board. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) makes recommendations about rules to the Wildlife Board. The DWR implements and enforces these statutes and rules.

• Wildlife administrative rules
  These rules are regularly reviewed and modified by the Wildlife Board to meet changing wildlife needs.
• Utah State statutes
  Each year, the state legislature creates or modifies statutes that affect wildlife. Most statutes affecting wildlife are contained in Title 23, but other statutes may also affect hunting and fishing.
• Hunting and fishing guide books
  The DWR publishes various hunting and fishing guide books (proclamations) to provide people with the information needed to legally engage in wildlife-related activities in Utah. These publications contain a mix of information from both Utah's statutes and the Board's administrative rules. These guide books also contain other helpful information to assist hunters, anglers and trappers.
