Rifle bull elk permits sold out

Permits still available to hunt on extended archery areas

Even though permits to hunt with a rifle on any-bull elk units sold out on Sept. 28, you can still get a permit to hunt bull elk in Utah.

While rifle and muzzleloader elk permits are sold out, hunters can still purchase permits to hunt on extended archery areas.

The archery hunt on Utah's three extended archery areas is underway. The hunt continues into December. Extended archery areas are located along parts of the Wasatch Front, in parts of the Uintah Basin and in the Sanpete Valley.

The number of general archery elk permits the Division of Wildlife Resources can sell isn't limited, so there's never a problem getting one.

Rifle and muzzleloader elk permits sold out

Permits to hunt elk with a rifle or a muzzleloader in Utah sold out fast this year.

Permits to hunt on spike-only bull elk units sold out on Aug. 28. Any-bull elk unit permits sold out Sept. 28.

The rifle hunt on both units begins Oct. 3. The muzzleloader hunt begins Oct. 28.
