7/1 Bear safety tips
People are seeing black bears as they camp and hike in Utah's backcountry. Here are a few tip that, if you follow them, will not only help you, but will help other people too.
6/25 Boating changes at Lake Powell
If you plan on visiting Lake Powell during the July 4 holiday, or anytime this summer, plan your visit so you don't arrive at a major launch ramp between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. If you arrive during those hours, you won't be able to launch your boat.

This year, sage-grouse and sharp-tailed grouse hunting permits will be available through a draw. You can apply for a sage-grouse, a sharp-tailed grouse or a sandhill crane permit starting June 25.

Permits to hunt buck deer in Utah this fall sold out on June 13. 18,000 bull elk permits were still available, though, on June 16.

6/4 Jail time, heavy fines handed down in poaching case
Two men have learned that it doesn't pay to poach in Utah. Both of the men were sentenced to six months in jail. They will also pay a combined total of $41,000 in restitution and fines. And they'll forfeit the three rifles they used to kill the animals.
5/28 Garfield County men plead guilty to poaching
Today in the Garfield County Courthouse, two men plead guilty to charges stemming from search warrants served over the Memorial Day weekend.
5/28 Buy deer and elk permits
If you don't have a permit to hunt buck deer in Utah this fall, your next chance to get one begins June 11. That's when permits not taken in this year's big game draw go on sale.
5/28 Apply for antlerless big game permits
The application period for this year's hunt will begin June 1.
