CWMU description
The S J Ranch Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is located on the Strawberry Valley and the Little Strawberry Valley. Higher elevations occur in the west and the east. In the west elevations range from 7100 feet to 7500 feet. In the east elevations reach 7600 feet. The valley between these to ridges is between 6800 feet and 7000 feet. An extension of Saddle Creek cuts the Unit in the north. It ranges between 6700 feet and 7000 feet. The most common elevation is 7100 feet but ranges from 6600 feet to 7900 feet with an elevation difference of 1300 feet. Fifty-one percent (51%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 7000 feet and 7300 feet an elevation difference of 300 feet.
Over sixty percent (60%) of the S J Ranch Cooperative Wildlife management Unit (CWMU) is covered with the Inter-Mountain Basins Montane Sagebrush Steppe (62) land cover type. Add to the Sagebrush Steppe, the Rocky Mountain Aspen Forest and Woodland (22), and one has the majority of the land covered.
