Description

The West Lake Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is located west and south of Utah Lake in Goshen Valley. Part of the northeast border is the shoreline of Utah Lake. This is a relatively flat Unit, about 4500 feet in the north, rising to 5000 feet in the middle and westside, then decreasing to 4700 feet in the south. Kimball Creek (4600 feet to 4900 feet) is probably the only major drainage on the Unit. The most common elevation is 4500 feet but ranges from 4400 feet to 5200 feet with an elevation difference of 800 feet. Fifty-six percent (56%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 4600 feet and 4900 feet an elevation difference of 300 feet.

Over sixty percent (60%) of the West Lake Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is Agriculture (114). Around the edges of the Unit are areas of Inter-Mountain Basins Big Sagebrush Shrubland (48) and Invasive Annual Grassland (121). Inter-Mountain Basins Greasewood Flat (82) and Developed, Open Space - Low Intensity (111) add to the character of the Unit.

One of the West Lake Cooperative Wildlife Mangement Unit (CWMU) nearest weather stations, ELBERTA (422418), is 0.6 km north of the north edge of the south parcel of the CWMU. ELBERTA has ninety (90) years of records, 1902 - 1992. During the FALL (September, October and November) the average precipitation is 2.64 inches, but it can be as high as 7.49 inches or as low as 0.51 inch. During the 91-day FALL period, 15 days will experience greater than or equal to 0.01 inch of precipitation, 8 days of greater than or equal to 0.10 inch, or 1 day of the greater than or equal to 0.50 inch of precipitation. Snowfall during the FALL averages 3.2 inches but can be as high as 15.0 inches. FALL temperature at ELBERTA averages 51.0 degrees F. but can be as high as 100.0 degrees F. or as low as -8.0 degrees F. During the FALL, 37 days will be below freezing (32 degrees F.) and 4 days above 90 degrees F. This map is provided for general reference only and does not constitute a legal hunt boundary.
