The Rose of Snowville
DescriptionThe Rose of Snowville Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is located west of Snowville, Utah in Curlew Valley. This is a relatively flat Unit. Higher elevations are on the eastside, ranging from 4700 feet to 4500 feet. In the west the elevation drops to 4300 feet. The only major drainage that cuts the Unit is Deep Creek, ranging from 4300 to 4400 feet. The most common elevation is 4400 feet but ranges from 4300 feet to 4800 feet with an elevation difference of 500 feet. Seventy percent (70%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 4400 feet and 4700 feet an elevation difference of 300 feet.
The dominant land cover on the Rose of Snowville Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU)is Agriculture (114), it occurs in two (2) large patches. The other dominant land cover in the middle of the Unit is Invasive Annual Grassland (121). Towards the middle and southwest of the Unit are large patches of Inter-Mountain Basins Mixed Salt Desert Scrub (58) and Inter-Mountain Basins Greasewood Flat (82).
One of the Rose Of Snowville Cooperative Wildlife Mangement Unit (CWMU) nearest weather stations, SNOWVILLE (427931), is 3.5 km east of the east edge of the CWMU. SNOWVILLE has ninety-eight (98) years of records, 1893 - 1991. During the FALL (September, October and November) the average precipitation is 2.86 inches, but it can be as high as 6.35 inches or as low as 0.85 inch. During the 91-day FALL period, 13 days will experience greater than or equal to 0.01 inch of precipitation, 8 days of greater than or equal to 0.10 inch, or 2 days of the greater than or equal to 0.50 inch of precipitation. Snowfall during the FALL averages 3.8 inches but can be as high as 25.0 inches. FALL temperature at SNOWVILLE averages 46.4 degrees F. but can be as high as 100.0 degrees F. or as low as -22.0 degrees F.
