This fall, Utah will offer statewide youth-only hunts for chukar, Hungarian partridge, pheasant and quail.
Modeled after Utah’s Youth Day for waterfowl hunting, these hunts are open to all youth who meet the age requirements and graduate from hunter education. You can read more about these hunts on page 11 of the 2013–2014 Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook.
There may also be a couple of additional hunts offered in areas across the state. Once they are scheduled, those opportunities will be listed below:
Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources have partnered to hold a pheasant hunt for 100 qualifying youth and recent hunter education graduates on November 9, 2013. We will release 250 pheasants for the hunt. (Please see the 2013–2014 Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits.)
Location: Pahvant Upland Game Management Area in Millard County. See the location online — (PDF link).
Date: November 9, 2013.
Time: There will be two sessions. The morning session is at 8 a.m., and the afternoon session is at 1 p.m.
Requirements: To participate, you must be 15 years of age or younger on November 9, 2013 or have graduated from Hunter Education in 2013 prior to November 9, 2013. The hunt is limited to 100 participants (50 per session).
How to sign up: You can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, call the Cedar City office at 435-865-6100.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has partnered with local sponsors and volunteers to provide guided youth pheasant hunting opportunities during the statewide youth pheasant hunt (October 12, 2013). Hunting dogs will be provided for 20 qualifying youth hunters. (Please see the 2013–2014 Upland Game & Turkey Guidebook for bag and possession limits.)
Where: The Youth Pheasant Hunt will take place at the Desert Lake Waterfowl Management Area in Emery County.
When: The Pheasant Hunt will start at 9:00 a.m. on October 12, 2013.
Who: To participate, you must be 15 years of age or younger on October 12, 2013. The hunt is limited to 20 participants. Participants must have an adult accompany them, possess an upland game hunting license, and have passed hunter safety.
How to sign up: You can sign up beginning Sept. 23, 2013. To sign up, visit or call the Southeastern Region office in Price at 435-613-3700. Successful applicants will be randomly drawn and notified at least 10 days before the hunt.
