The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation to host a free seminar covering essential turkey hunting skills and techniques. We’ll cover the fundamentals of turkey hunting, share tips to ensure success stepping out into the field, and answer all of your questions! This seminar is best for beginner and intermediate hunters.

What to expect:

  • The primary focus will be on essential skills and equipment needed for turkey hunters just getting started, but intermediate and advanced techniques will be discussed as well.
  • NWTF Save the Hunt Coordinator Lynn Worwood will present and demonstrate turkey hunting tips.

Bighorn Sheep Viewing — Provo
Bighorn Sheep Viewing — Provo

Come with your binoculars and spotting scopes to see Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in Utah County!

Join the Division of Wildlife Resources, Provo City, and the Utah Wild Sheep Foundation near the mouth of Rock Canyon for an opportunity to see bighorn sheep!

This free family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Rock Canyon Park pavilion area in Provo, UT.

What to expect:

  • There will be a chance of seeing as many as 20 bighorn sheep on the mountain side (mostly female sheep known as ewes).
  • Utah DWR will have binoculars and spotting scopes people can use to view sheep on the mountain from the pavilion gathering area.
  • There will be signs directing people to the pavilion at the Rock Canyon Park trail.
  • Utah DWR and the Utah Wild Sheep Foundation personnel will be onsite to answer questions about Utah's Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
  • Restrooms and a playground are onsite.

What to bring:

  • Viewing equipment such as binoculars or a spotting scope (we will have a limited supply provided for free use).
  • Water, a hat, jacket and camera!

Please note: The sheep in this area are visible year round, so if you cannot make the event (or if we are at capacity), feel free to visit the area on your own time! Bring your binoculars and scan the mountain side to spot these unique animals located east of Rock Canyon Park. Please remember to view these animals from a safe distance.

  • Anyone over 12 years of age and older may attend.
  • We will cover: gear, types of flies, fishing on a lake vs. a stream, casting, lure presentation, fish identification plus more!
  • We will practice casting and have all equipment available for you to use; however, you are welcome to bring your own.

Do you want to fish in southern Utah and are not sure how to get started? Join the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council for a seminar on fishing at warmwater fisheries in southern Utah. This seminar will teach you the basics so you can feel confident fishing Utah's warmwater rivers, lakes and reservoirs!

What to expect:

  • We will cover fishing at warmwater reservoirs like Lake Powell, Sand Hollow, Quail Creek and Gunlock Reservoir.
  • Presenters will discuss target species and gear needed.
  • There will be time for Q&A at the end of presentations.
