Registration for Hunter Education classes has recently changed April 1, 2007. Historically, students registered on the first day of class. Now, students are required to obtain a voucher at a license agent for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, prior to registering for a Hunter Education course.
Hunter Education course enrollment fees will increase from $6.00 to $10.00, yet students will save money. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a free 365-day Small Game License. The license will allow a Hunter Education graduate to hunt small game during the current season.
Steps for new student:
- Obtain a Hunter Education voucher for the course at any DWR office or license agent.
- After obtaining voucher, register for an advertised class with your local hunter education instructor.
- Take the voucher to the Hunter Education Instructor the first night of class.
- Upon successful completion of the course, the instructor will provide the validated small game license to the student.
- The Hunter Education card, commonly known as the "blue card," will be mailed to the student at the address provided on the voucher.
A couple of noteworthy items to remember:
- Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult while hunting.
- Regardless of when the student graduates, all hunting regulations such as season dates and bag limits will apply.
- Students anticipating hunting out-of-state will need to allow enough time for the "blue card" to arrive in the mail.
Additional information can be obtained by contacting any Division of Wildlife Office or by calling (801) 538-4727.
